How to use it
- Add the PDF.
- Choose smaller, balanced, sharper, a percent, or a maximum size.
- Compress and read the real original and new sizes before you send it.
Phone cameras and scans often make PDFs that are too heavy for an email form. This compressor redraws each page as a JPEG and builds a new PDF at the original page size. Smaller, balanced, and sharper are fixed detail choices. Smaller by % tries to remove about that share of the file. Max size keeps the result at or under the size you enter when that is possible.
The numbers on the result are measured after the redraw. A percent is a target, not a promise made before the pages are drawn. If the smallest picture is still over your size limit, the tool stops instead of handing you a file that is too big. Because the pages become images, you will not be able to select the old text. Keep the original if you still need that text.
Questions
Will the page size change?
The compressed PDF keeps the original page size in points. Only the picture detail changes.
What does 40% mean?
It tries to make the file about 40% smaller than the original. The status line shows how much smaller the finished file actually is.
How many pages can I compress?
Up to 80 pages at a time, so a phone does not run out of memory. Split a longer file first.
